The Important Men in My Life

Crap, I hate to cancel on a nice guy!  I had two appointments set for today and I had to cancel both. (I never cancel on a crappy guy because I don’t make dates with crappy guys.)

My plan for this morning was a fella I have been with once before.  We got on very well together, and when he asked last week if we could meet again this week I was motivated to say yes.  In fact, we had something sort of special planned!  Something he had never tried before, one of the things that I don’t do on a first date.  We had an email conversation to make arrangements, and I asked him to do some reading/research.  We were both getting excited — so of course, two of my three kids woke up this morning feeling sick.  I sent the one least likely to be faking back to bed and shuffled the others off to school, telling Most Likely to Be Faking he could call me if he felt worse later on.

For those of you who have jobs, you know the drill — you start doing the math.  How sick is he?  Is there anyone else to watch him?  Can I go into work for a couple hours at least?  Who needs me more?  Who am I going to disappoint this time?  I sent emails to the two fellas who thought they would be the most important men in my life today to inform them that they had been demoted . . . it just couldn’t be helped.

I heard back from my afternoon plan right away.  He is someone I see every week.  We had big plans for this afternoon, too.  Much of what we do together is ‘outside the lines’, but because He has earned my trust over several months, He gets to make His own rules with me.  He treasures my role as a slut for Him, but he also supports my role as Mom and as a student.  Besides . . . He knows I will make time for Him next week as well, so there isn’t as much riding on any one date.  I hadn’t heard back from my morning plan, and that should have alerted me that I needed to call him directly, but I was preoccupied (and I went back to bed myself!)  So at the appointed hour, my ‘work’ phone rings.  The important man on the other end is waiting at my apartment — money and other things burning a hole in his pants — completely ready for a special experience and completely unaware that his plans have changed because this Naughty Soccer Mom has to be more Mom than Naughty today.  Cock blocked by a snotty nosed kid!  Crap!  I hate to cancel on someone, but canceling at the very last minute is cruel.  He already knows me, has already decided I am real and friendly — what is he gonna do, start calling random escorts hoping to find someone to spend his free morning with? As much as I was looking forward to our appointment, and as little as I want him to go off and find someone else, I really wish I had a handful of working girlfriends I could call at times like this.  I would have felt better if I could have lined up a suitable substitute, someone I knew would treat him right.  (note to self: make some contacts with like-minded women in town here.)

I seriously considered trying to sneak out on the kid and keep my appointments . . . and just as I was beating myself up a little for leaving the nice guy hanging, School Nurse called.  Most Likely to be Faking wasn’t faking.  One clinic appointment, two strep tests, and back to the house for my Florence Nightingale routine.  But, hey, the up side is I got to do some much needed nurturing of boys who think they are too cool to need their Mom, I got some much needed housework done, and I have time to write a blog post.  The third boy gets off the bus soon — and I will have a looooong weekend with the Most Important Men in my Life.  (Note to self:  find a date for Monday  morning, you are gonna need it!)
